Lead Software Engineer & Research Scientist• Feb 2023 - Apr 2024
Helped develop computational theory IP by translating in-house information-theoretic algorithms to high-performance scalable research tools that would become the backend of our primary product. Directed the rapid creation of on-prem HPC and automation workflows to meet our time-critical team needs. Applied our research tools toward antibiotic drug discovery and several other domains, helping to quickly isolate the real-world strengths of our tools.
Python Generalist & Data Science Product Owner• Oct 2020 - Apr 2021
As a core developer for the 10-person data science startup Conducto, Jory brought a "can-do" attitude to a variety of feature requests and brainstorming sessions for their data science and live debug pipeline service. This included learning and interacting with a variety of technologies to solve problems from backend to frontend, but focused on backend, building service APIs, and integrating others like Github.
Web SWE, Desktop SWE, Microsoft Blend Instructor, Instructional Designer, Animator, Automation Engineer• Mar 2008 - Jul 2009
Jory joined a small 3-person team at the startup company Aeshen where he personally focused on software development of technical, challenging, or flashy portions of software that other companies were not equipped to handle (C♯,Python,AHK,PHP,SQL,Flash). The other major activity involved teaching cutting-edge software (Silverlight) in week-long bootcamps across the country, or through self-developed and directed screencasts, as a part of a fast and dynamic team where Jory was co-responsible for QA and client relations with companies such as Nike, Intel, Microsoft, Porter&Bogusky. Jory was being encouraged into higher-stakes financial responsibilities when he instead resigned, leaving his Aeshen friends and colleagues so that he could pursue a time-sensitive opportunity to begin graduate school.

Dual-Focus Ph.D. toward Artificial Cognition • May 2017
— Computer Science & Engineering
— Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, & Behavior
During my tenure there, MSU was the National Science Foundation center for the Study of Evolution in Action. It was a great place to study with people from vastly different fields of study toward the understanding of cognition and intelligent behavior, and the evolutionary pressures that resulted in cognitive traits.
M.S. Computational Biology• May 2011
Here I started my Ph.D. journey, following my awesome advisor — Chris Adami — to Michigan State University.
B.S. Computational Science• May 2007
Originally a music major — 2 classes short for a composition degree — I switched to computer science. This was the result of needing to decide how to best spend my limited money, and critically assessing happiness and longevity in each field.
